On Wednesday, the U.S. August core PCE inflation data unexpectedly came in lower than expected, but Federal Reserve officials continued to issue hawkish signals. Cook reiterated that inflation has been above the 2% target for more than five years, supports a rate hike in September, and is committed to restoring price stability. Goolsby warned that persistent high inflation is playing with fire, and that the huge fiscal deficit itself constitutes a stimulus.
